CAP Theorem

The theorem states that when a network partition occurs, a distributed system cannot guarantee both perfect consistency and complete availability at the same time. Architects use this tradeoff to reason about database and distributed-system behavior. It matters because architectural choices determine how a system scales, fails, recovers, communicates, and changes as complexity grows.
