GraphQL provides a strongly typed interface for reading and modifying application data. Clients can combine related data requirements into a single request, which can simplify frontend development, although the server must still manage authorization, performance, caching, and query complexity. It matters because modern applications rarely operate alone; they exchange data and actions with internal services, third-party platforms, databases, and automated workflows.
